Abstract:

Designed a circular microstrip patch antenna. Antenna is designed to resonate at frequency of 5.1 GHz. The reflection coefficient of the proposed antenna design is found to be less than -10 dB for range of frequencies between 4.9 GHz to 5.1 GHz. Minimum value of reflection coefficient is found to be -21.5 dB for resonating frequency of 5.1 GHz.

Details:

Microstrip patch antenna with resonating frequency 5.1 GHz was designed and simulated using CADFEKO simulation tool. Various modifications made in the conventional design of antenna to obtain the desired performance characteristics. Slots in circular design resulted in good impedance matching between microstrip and patch, thereby reducing the return loss and increasing the gain. Maximum gain of proposed antenna design was observed to be 5.9 dBi which is quite good for patch antenna designed with FR4 as substrate. Minimum value of reflection of coefficient was observed to be -20.88 dB. Other parameters such as radiation pattern and VSWR were also observed satisfactory. Simulation results were verified by fabricating the antenna. Results obtained for simulated design and fabricated design were found to be in good agreement with each other.
